There are many types of DNS records with different purposes and peculiarities. To add these entries, you must enter data depending on the type of entry.
I will list the main types of records from those that can be added to our DNS hosting service.
- A record - is for directing a domain or subdomain. Requires entering its name and the IP address of the server to which it is to be directed;
- CNAME - subdomain, which is the canonical name of the main domain or another subdomain or a completely different domain. Specify the name of the subdomain in the Name field, and the domain it should point to in the Domain field;
- MX record - a mail record that specifies the domain name of the mail server for the domain. It can be the main domain, a subdomain of the main domain, or a completely different domain. If this is a domain or a subdomain of the main domain, you need to add an additional A or CNAME record for it;
- TXT record - also commonly used. It is required to be added for domain verification, which is necessary for the operation of services, and is also necessary for the correct operation of e-mail.
To add a DNS entry, first go to your hosting DNS panel. You can do this from your personal account. Go to the Services section. Then select the category DNS-Hosting. Click the three dots on the right side of the service name and select the menu item named To panel.
In the hosting DNS panel, go to the Domain names section, select the desired domain and click the Records button.
As you can see, there are already some records for the domain. Here you can add, modify or delete entries. The domain name must be of the master type. To add an entry, click the Add button.
For example, let's add an A record for the subdomain. Select the record type A in the Type field; in the Name field enter the name of the subdomain. For example, type test in the Name field and enter the IP address of the server where the subdomain should be located in the IP address field.
When entering in the Name field, you can only enter the name of the subdomain without a dot at the end. In this case, the rest of the domain will be added automatically after the record is created. Or you can add an entry with the full domain name, such as "test.my-domain.com.". In this case, it is necessary to specify a dot at the end, otherwise the domain part will be added to the record.
The second example is to add a Google verification TXT record. Select the TXT record type. In the Name field, enter either the domain name or the @ symbol, which stands for your primary domain. In the Value field, add the verification string itself.
At the end, click the Ok button. The entry should appear in the list.
